One Night In Africa – Wakanda Experience

Here is the highlights from the event.

One Night in Africa – Wakanda Experience Gala was an all African themed night set to:

✅Raise funds for Grant A Smile CIC
✅Celebrate the rich and beautiful continent of Africa and showcase our exotic culture
✅Bring the community together to embrace inclusion and diversity. #onecommunity

We couldn’t have achieved this milestone without the amazing planning team who were also volunteers, business partners who joined us as sponsors, vendors who went above and beyond for us.

We are most grateful to our community leaders for saying yes to our invitation and to all our phenomenal guests for supporting us and turning up in true Wakanda Style.

On the 4th of February 2023, Grant A Smile CIC www.grantasmile.org.uk hosted their first ever community building event dedicated to celebrating diversity and culture held at the exquisite Theydon Bois Golf Club in Essex.

The Wakanda theme experience was set to showcase the beautiful and exotic African continent, provide an unforgettable African experience, promote diversity, demystify Africa and foster the growth for a more culturally sensitive community. It was a huge success and provided an opportunity for guests to connect and come together following the recent events of COVID-19.

The event was an African themed community-building, educational, and social event that emphasised the value of inclusivity and social integration. Through an appreciation of shared heritage, this project provided an opportunity to learn about cultural diversity. The event included live African performances and choreographed dancing for audience participation, games, guest interaction games, African storytelling, African cuisine and community building activities.

There has never been a better time for cultural exploration, education, and exchange between the mainstream and African communities. Such an event has contributed to cultural identity development and emphasises shared learning experiences among people from diverse cultural backgrounds, resulting in increased community social cohesion.

The event provided the ideal opportunity for Essex residents and communities to participate in culturally inclusive events that promoted and disseminated cultural topics in order to broaden cultural understanding. Cultural events have been found to increase group members’ togetherness through cultivating skills of cooperation and dialogue. This has become evident through the work we have done with this event.

The founder and CEO of Grant A Smile CIC, Joyce Obaseki BEM had this to say: “I want to thank Theydon Bois Golf Club for offering this complimentary venue in support of our non-profit. It has always been a dream to birth a project like this in true celebration of inclusion and diversity and I want to thank the planning team and our guests for showing up like true Wakanda kings and queens and for making this dream a reality.

The project would not have been possible without the joint effort of the communities and local partners. We sort the support of volunteers within our communities and were able to promote local businesses by hiring their services. This had a positive impact, considering the recent effects the pandemic had on small businesses.
